Our largest astronomical telescope project at one of the best sites on Earth.
After taking three connecting flights and then driving 300 kilometers overnight, we finally arrived at Lenghu, Qinghai, to work on the largest astronomical telescope technical project we’ve ever handled. Together with the installations in Yunnan, there are over forty towers, each one a large telescope. The atmospheric stability in this area rivals that of Dome A in Antarctica, Hawaii, and Chile, reaching below 0.3 arcseconds, making it one of the best sites in the world for astronomical observation. This location is also special in history. It lies within the ancient kingdom of Tuyuhun, a nation that vanished from history amidst the conflicts between the Sui-Tang dynasties and the Tibetan Empire. Not far from here is the place Du Fu described in his poem "The Army Carts”, where "since ancient times, white bones lie unburied along the frontier at Qinghai.”
